THE Ultimate Munch Off, a street food competition that was supposed to take place during the Munch & Sip event last month will take place this Saturday at Hillside Dams Conservancy.

Three chefs are set to compete and will be judged by four judges with a prize on offer for the winning chef.

Event founder Mandipa Masuku told Chronicle Showbiz that the competing chefs will have a secret ingredient.

“We have three chefs that applied and our major sponsors’ Greens and Country Foods are going to be sponsoring the competition. We’re trying to create a street food culture within Zimbabwe which is excitement surrounding food that can be easily made by Zimbabweans and that is easily palatable by Zimbabweans.

“Ideally, we want to achieve this by having our chefs try out different ingredients. They’ll have a secret ingredient that they’ll use and they will be judged accordingly,” she said

The event organisers said this will not be a festival, similar to the one that was held last month, but rather, a food competition where people will be able to relax and dine while listening to music.

They said they are running the chef’s competition separately since they could not execute it at the Sailing Club, likely as the event was way oversubscribed, leaving service providers overwhelmed.

“On the 28th of August, we weren’t able to fulfil our promise to give you the more thrilling street food competition, so we want to fix that. Join us this weekend as we screen the competition at the Hillside Dams Conservancy tea room,” said event organisers.

They said no tickets will be sold although a parking fee will apply. – @SeehYvonne
