“This is why I tried to kill myself” – Frank Chirisa Frank Chirisa

ON Friday, comedian Frank Chirisa revealed the trigger of his suicide attempt during the “Funny stories that heal” comedy show held at the Hope City Centre in Bulawayo.

His suicide attempt story was among the most talked about earlier this year given his celebrity status in the city. He almost died after trying to commit suicide by lying on a railway line so that a train could run over him. Fortunately, the train did not show up.

Following this incident, family members took him for counselling for two weeks. After that, he came back stronger, revived and like a seed, germinated and cemented himself as one of the fast-rising comedians in Bulawayo.

During the Friday show, Chirisa outlined how the pressures of life can push one to the edge.
“I tried killing myself for a couple of reasons. I’m a broke comedian who finds the going tough and lastly, a Manchester United fan.

That on its own was enough pressure to push me to the edge as life seemed torrid enough to bear,” he said.
Clad in grey Dejavu Apparel shorts, T-shirt, and black cap, Frank Chirisa was ready to roll and ribs were to be cracked. Ranging from his unfortunate life experiences in the past six months, the comedian used humour to address mental health issues and implored people to love, cherish and take care of each other always.

“It’s important to take care of our loved ones at all times. Life is full of troubles. I’d like to thank my parents and friends for bearing with me during these times,” he said.

Also in attendance were Chirisa’s parents who were roasted for a while when the funny man delivered his polished set.
Actor Mbongeni Ignatius gave a rendition of how the “Funny stories that heal” idea came about.

“’Funny stories that heal’ is an amalgamation of pressures that lead us to extremes. The stories that are shared are from people from diverse backgrounds and the idea is to heal people using different life experiences,” he said.

Makhosemvelo Mafu was the host while the All Imperial-endorsed hip-hop artiste Swazy, Junior Garnet, Mengezi the magician, and Reilo Viekk provided entertainment. Models Miss Teen Ecotourism Zimbabwe 2022 Amanda Moyo and Miss Super Globe Zimbabwe 1st Runner Up Pamela Ncube and Yolanda Mpofu the reigning Miss Teen Super Globe Zimbabwe 2022 also attended the event as part of the organising team.

Local creatives came in their numbers to support one of their own and these included Stewie Le Savage, Thorne Laroq and Anele Moyo among others.

The show also meant to raise mental health issues, will be held every fortnight at The Hope City Centre. – @eMKlass_49
