MPOPOMA High School held its annual speech and prize-giving day yesterday, honouring top achievers in various fields under the theme “Combined Efforts Towards an Endless Journey to Excellence”.
The ceremony was graced by the president of the Catering Employers Association and the Association of All Businesses, Mr Josphat Kawema, as guest of honour. Also in attendance were Mpopoma’s former school headmaster, Mr Christopher Dube, DSI Mzilikazi district, school heads and their representatives, and SDC executives.
Speaking at the occasion, the school head, Mrs Sihle Sibanda, applauded the strides made by staff and students in producing outstanding results.
“Today we gather to celebrate exceptional achievements. I congratulate our top performers, workers of the year, and everyone who contributed to our outstanding results,” said Mrs Sibanda.
She noted that the students also demonstrated remarkable talent and teamwork in sports.
“They have represented the country in international competitions and obtained scholarships,” she said.
Mrs Sibanda highlighted that at O-level, 58 percent of the students achieved impressive grades.
Additionally, A-level students excelled, with 43 students scoring 15 points and above, eight students achieving 20 points, and two reaching the remarkable 25 points milestone.
“These accomplishments demonstrate our collective dedication and relentless pursuit of excellence,” she noted.
She further commended students, teachers and staff for their tireless efforts.
“To those who may not have achieved their desired results, I urge you, do not be discouraged. Every setback is an opportunity to learn and grow,” she said.
Mrs Sibanda encouraged students to keep pushing forward, assuring them that persistence will yield success.
“Some say the sky is the limit, but I say the sky is only the beginning,” she said.
Looking ahead, she said they strive for continuous improvement, embracing challenges and learning from failures.
“Let’s continue to work together, supporting one another and pushing beyond boundaries. Your potential is limitless, and I have faith in each and every one of you,” said Mrs Sibanda.
Speaking at the same occasion, Mr Kawema congratulated the prize winners for their hard work and dedication.
“Your accomplishments are a testament to your potential and the supportive environment provided by this school,” said Mr Kawema.
Mr Kawema advised students to embrace challenges, learn from failures, and cultivate resilience. He emphasised that they should continue to grow because they haven’t yet arrived.
He acknowledged the tireless efforts of teachers in guiding students to excellence.
“Your passion and commitment have made a lasting impact on their lives,” he said.
He urged parents to continue showing unwavering support to their children, which has nurtured their young minds.
“Your encouragement has helped them reach new heights. Don’t rest because drugs and sickness are waiting for your children; remain strict,” he said.
Mr Kawema encouraged learners to continue striving for excellence, embracing innovation, and fostering a love for learning.
“Always strive for excellence and make your mark on the world,” he said.
Mr Kawema urged students to keep pushing boundaries and exploring possibilities.
Scores of children from the school were handed prizes for excelling in various disciplines throughout the year. The ceremony saw some students scooping more than two prizes in the science field, which is usually perceived as the most difficult.
The outgoing head girl, Prudence Murombedzi, also delivered a motivational speech where she urged her fellow peers to strive for excellence and focus on chasing their dreams.
Performances from the poetry club and the school’s choir added vibrancy to the occasion.
