Triangle ground airmen in Chiredzi

Triangle  2 – 0 Chapungu
TWO first half goals from debutante Ephinos Kamunda and Russel Madamombe helped Triangle ground Chapungu in a Castle Lager Premiership tie at Gibbo yesterday.

Triangle, who beat title contenders Ngezi Platinum Stars two weeks ago, have been doing well against top sides and dropping points against the lightweights.

New acquisition Kamunda made an immediate impact as he contributed immensely to Triangle’s victory.

After being kept at bay for some time, Triangle were eventually rewarded for their patience and pressure when referee Artwell Mazire gave them a penalty after a handball inside the box in the 31st minute. Former Dynamos midfilder Madamombe took responsibility and cooly converted from the spot, giving goalkeeper Roy Mazingi no Chance. Triangle doubled their lead 10 minutes later when Kamunda, who was signed from Division One side Karoi United, showed his goal-poaching prowess after some good work by skipper Nhamo Lameck. Kamunda was later replaced by veteran Courage Denias, with nine minutes left, and was given a standing ovation by the home fans.

Triangle coach Taurai Mangwiro praised his troops.

“I am very happy with the result, it’s a special victory. We had never won two games on the trot and this is the beginning of good things,’’ he said.

‘’It has been a challenge and we are now looking for a third consecutive victory when we travel to Dynamos on Sunday.
