THREE men from Inyathi in Bubi District, about 60km from Bulawayo, have appeared in court, accused of brutally attacking two rivals with stones, okapi knives, and machetes, leaving one victim unconscious.
The accused, Nkosilathi Ngwenya (21), Mududuzi Sibanda (22), and Melusi Ngwenya (30), allegedly assaulted Olivine Moyo and Mbekezeli Sibindi at Empondweni Zebhalabhala Mine after a dispute.
The trio appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate, Mr Matthew Mutiro on Tuesday, facing attempted murder charges. They were remanded in custody and are set to stand trial on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on February 8 at around 5pm., when the accused, along with accomplices still at large, confronted Moyo (39) and Sibindi (23), accusing them of trespassing into their mining territory. The confrontation escalated into violence, with the attackers using stones, knives, and machetes.
Moyo lost consciousness during the assault, while Sibindi managed to escape but witnessed his friend being attacked. One of the assailants pursued Sibindi and stabbed him in the left side of the chest and right eye with an unknown object.
Despite his injuries, Sibindi fled and reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the three suspects. Moyo was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo, where he remains admitted.
