In a post on his media platform Truth Social, Trump accused the country of “confiscating land” and “treating certain classes of people very badly”.
Trump also attacked the media for refusing to give the issue much attention adding that a massive human rights violation “as a minimum” was happening for all to see.
It’s not the first time SA has been put on notice in a Trump social media post. He tweeted as President back in August 2018 that he had ordered his Secretary of State to closely study what he called the country’s “land and farm seizures, expropriations and the large-scale killing of farmers”.
In yesterday’s post, he painted the media as radical left for giving expropriations no mention and that the US would not stand for it, it would act.
Trump wrote that he would be cutting off all future funding to SA until a full investigation of the situation had been completed.
Asked by a journalist why he had singled out the country among all the African nations, Trump said: “Its only South Africa, terrible things are happening in South Africa, the leadership is doing some terrible things, horrible things so that’s under investigation right now. We’re making determinations and until such time as we find out what South Africa is doing, they’re taking away land, their confiscating land and actually they’re doing things that are perhaps far worse than that.”
