DESPITE suffering a heavy defeat against Eagles in their second match of the 2024/25 Logan Cup campaign at Queens Sports Club on Sunday, Tuskers are keeping their heads high as they prepare for their next assignment.

The Bulawayo side suffered a heavy innings and 205 runs defeat at the hands of Eagles, their second loss in the new campaign.

However, assistant coach Chris Mpofu is not throwing in the towel as he believes that Sunday’s loss was a learning curve for his side. Tuskers were missing regular fast bowlers Ernest Masuku, Charlton Tshuma and youngster Mgcini Dube.

Mpofu said they were now focusing on the next assignment.

“It was a heavy defeat but we are no longer worried or focused on it. After the game, we had a positive chat with the guys. For us, it was a learning curve. We had guys who have played one or two first-class matches coming in so inexperience was also at play.

“We had some injuries but I believe we could have done better, especially with the bat where he had the experience. It’s disappointing but we take the positives. The game has come and gone and we don’t want to dwell much into it.

“We didn’t play to the best of our ability and lost heavily. It could have been easy if we had also taken our chances. Now we have to regroup and look forward to our next game in Mutare,” said Mpofu.

After two rounds of games in the Logan Cup, Tuskers anchor the log standings as they are yet to register a win. Eagles sit at the top with 39 points, having won once and drawn once.

Tuskers’ next game is against third-placed Mega Market Mountaineers at Mutare Sports Club on December 7.
