Two diarrhoea death cases reported in first week of July

TWO deaths from diarrhoea were reported, one at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare Province and the other in Mbire District in Mashonaland Central Province during the first week of July.
According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care Disease Surveillance Report for the week ended 7 July 2024, 6 520 Common diarrhoea cases were reported countrywide.
Diarrhoea means having a loose, watery stool during a bowel movement. It is common in both children and adults and usually goes away on its own within a few days. If it doesn’t improve, infected persons should get treatment immediately. Its common symptoms include fever or bloody stool.
In a statement on X, the Ministry of Health and Child Care (@MoHCCZim) said: “Of the reported cases, 2 930 were from under five years of age. The provinces that reported the highest number of cases were Mashonaland West (933) and Mashonaland East (930). The cumulative figures for common diarrhoea are 175 551 cases and 60 deaths.”
