IT is true, they love Mimmie! That love for Bulawayo’s fast-rising songstress Mimmie Tarukwana (born Mubanga Natasha Tarukwana) has seen her being added to the list of acts that will share the stage with the contemporary reggae band, UB40 in Harare.

The much-anticipated gig has been lined up for Old Hararians Sports Club on May 25. The Africa Day celebrations will also see Sylent Nqo and Josh Ansley join in.

Mimmie, the versatile singer and songwriter, who is a favourite of many who love live music in Bulawayo said she is anticipating a great show.

“I’m excited to be performing at the UB40 featuring Ali Campbell show in May. I’m a          little nervous though but I know we are going to have good vibes all around,” she said.

The lead vocalist for the popular jazz band, The Outfit has been on a meteoric rise as she continues to clinch impressive gigs, especially in the capital city. Notable events she has performed at in Harare include the Jabulani Jazz Festival and Stanbic Jacaranda Music Festival which were both organised by organisers of the forthcoming UB40 gig, Ngoma Nehosho.

Other events she has performed at are the Shoko Festival, the Bulawayo Arts Festival, and the Harare International Festival of the Arts.

In 2021, Mimmie, sister to hip-hop artiste Asaph released her debut EP titled They Love Mimmie and she was the only artiste from Bulawayo to be selected for Mr Eazi’s Empawa 100 in 2018, a talent incubation initiative to nurture and support up-and-coming artistes in Africa.
