THE Zanu-PF 21st National People’s Conference being hosted by Bulawayo with more than 4 000 delegates expected to attend, presents a unique opportunity for the province to showcase its vibrancy and organisational capabilities for large-scale events.
Bulawayo will host the revolutionary party’s annual indaba at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre from October 22-26 under the theme: “Industrialise, modernise towards Vision 2030.”
Speaking recently after a joint conference co-ordinating committee meeting held at the venue for the conference, Zanu-PF secretary general, Dr Obert Mpofu said preparations were at an advanced stage.
“Bulawayo is ready to host the annual National People’s Conference and at least 4 231 delegates including diplomats, diaspora district delegates, chiefs, service chiefs, Government Ministers and officials and local guests are expected to attend. This conference may turn out to be the best ever,” said Dr Mpofu, who led a high-powered politburo delegation on behalf of the party chairperson, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri.
Dr Mpofu praised the host province for working tirelessly as a unit to prepare for a successful conference.
He said unlike in the past when divisions in the province would manifest, there was no such a thing this time around.
“We want to thank you, people of Bulawayo. This is probably the first time that we have seen unity of purpose from Bulawayo. That is what we want as party leadership,” said Dr Mpofu.
The province is also collaborating with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of the conference.
“Mobilisation of resources to feed delegates at the conference is on track. The budget has been confirmed and is being managed effectively. Catering equipment and utensils will be sourced through the party’s procurement committee, with specifications already submitted for technical assessment.
“Additionally, the Transport and Social Welfare Sub-Committee has engaged the services of our trusted catering providers for the Conference,” he said.
Dr Mpofu’s remarks highlight that hosting this significant event on the party’s calendar has provided Bulawayo with an opportunity to shine and demonstrate its capacity to lead and inspire.
It also underscores the importance of unity and growth within the province’s ranks.
The successful preparations for the conference are a testament to the unity and dedication of Bulawayo’s members.
By working together towards a common goal, they have demonstrated their ability to overcome challenges and achieve remarkable results.
This spirit of unity will undoubtedly contribute to the success of the conference and strengthen Bulawayo’s position within the party.
It is important to note that the Zanu-PF National People’s Conference is a significant platform for the ruling party to reflect on its commitment to upholding constitutional principles and advancing democratic governance in Zimbabwe.
The conference is significant as it provides a platform for the party’s leadership to reflect on its achievements and failures and set the stage to chart future goals.
The conference in Bulawayo comes in line with the aspirations of Vision 2030, a national development blueprint as championed by President Mnangagwa.
This ambitious vision aims to transform Zimbabwe into a prosperous and upper-middle-income country by the year 2030.
The successful hosting of the SADC Summit has undoubtedly provided a valuable opportunity to showcase Zimbabwe’s capabilities and potential as a regional leader. Building upon this momentum, the preparations for the upcoming conference should be meticulously planned and executed to ensure a seamless and impactful event.
By hosting such a significant event, Bulawayo contributes to the realisation of Vision 2030 and demonstrates its commitment to the party’s goals for the nation’s development.
It also provides an opportunity for the party to address issues affecting the country and make policy decisions that can shape the direction of the nation.
Delegates from across the nation will come together to discuss and debate key issues, such as economic development, social welfare and political governance.
The outcomes of the conference will have a significant impact on the direction of the party and the country as a whole.
As the second largest city and a major sub-regional metropolis, Bulawayo’s hosting of the Zanu-PF National People’s Conference presents a platform for businesses to capitalise on the influx of delegates and visitors.
By developing innovative revenue-generating strategies, businesses cannot only benefit financially, but also contribute to the overall success of the conference and enhance Bulawayo’s reputation as a vibrant and dynamic city.
The hosting of the conference in Bulawayo aligns with the Second Republic’s devolution programme, led by President Mnangagwa’s “leaving no one and no place behind” philosophy.
This policy emphasises inclusive development and aims to empower all citizens and regions of Zimbabwe.
There is no doubt that these changes promote inclusivity and foster a greater appreciation for the diverse cultures and contributions of different regions within Zimbabwe.
These changes are also a potential driver of development, with the hosting province standing to benefit from significant infrastructure upgrades and economic opportunities. The changes are significant in many ways, in as far as charting a new trajectory by the Second Republic, of fostering unity and inclusivity.
Hosting such a huge event can lead to significant infrastructure improvements in the host province.
Roads are often rehabilitated to accommodate the increased traffic and venues that will be used for the conference are frequently renovated to ensure they meet the highest standards.
These improvements not only benefit the conference attendees, but also have a lasting impact on the local community, as they can improve access to essential services and stimulate economic growth.
In addition to infrastructure upgrades, the conference can also attract investment and tourism, further contributing to the development of the host province.
The business community in Bulawayo is also enthusiastic about the conference, as such events can significantly boost business activity.
The influx of delegates and visitors creates opportunities for businesses to generate revenue through various means, such as accommodation, transportation, catering and retail.
This economic boost can have a positive ripple effect on the local economy, benefiting businesses of all sizes.
In April 2022, Bulawayo successfully hosted the 42nd Independence Day celebrations, demonstrating the transformative impact of Government’s devolution policy.
This successful event showcased Bulawayo’s capacity to host large-scale national events, such as the Zanu-PF National People’s conference.
As the province gears up for this significant event, the focus should be on creating a memorable and impactful conference that reflects the party’s values and ambitions.
By meticulously planning and executing every aspect of the conference, Bulawayo can showcase its best qualities and leave a lasting impression on the delegates and the nation as a whole.
This event presents a unique opportunity for Bulawayo to demonstrate its leadership, unity and commitment to the party’s vision for Zimbabwe.
