‘Water Spirits’: unmasking demonic spirits associated with the wrong use of water as a source of power (Part 2)

PSALM 24 vs 1-2,1, The earth is the LORD’S, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. 2, For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters. Psalm 104 vs 5-6 vs 5, You who laid the foundations of the earth, so that it should not be moved forever vs6, You covered it with the deep as with a garment; The waters stood above the mountains. Psalm 29 vs 3, 10 vs3, The voice of the LORD is over the waters;

The God of glory thunders; The LORD is over many waters vs 10, The LORD sat enthroned at the Flood, And the LORD sits as King forever.

In last week’s article, we covered the following: Seven important aspects about water, how the spiritual warfare was transferred into the water (sea) Revelation 12 vs 12 and the capricious (ever changing) methods of God and Water spirits in scripture.

Jesus also understood the manifestation of water spirits, one time as Jesus crossed over the sea, a furious storm arose as water spirits were trying to overturn the boat. In their natural state, rocks, trees, water, etc . . . give glory to God (Psalm 148). These would not normally challenge God and the authority of Jesus Christ unless the water spirits have inspired them (Matthew 8 vs 23 – 27).

If it was a natural Godly storm, Jesus would not rebuke something from His Father. He knew that the storm was an evil manifestation of water spirits. It is also reasonable to conclude that in the same account that water spirits possessed the Gardarene — demon possessed man that met Jesus as He came out of the boat on the other side. Matthew 8 vs 28-29, When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way.

And suddenly they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?” They recognised who Jesus was. They pleaded through the Gardarene demoniacs that Jesus should cast them out into the herd of swine. Matthew 8 vs 30-32, Now a good way off from them there was a herd of many swine feeding. So the demons begged Him, saying, “If You cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of swine.” And He said to them, “Go.” So when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine. And suddenly the whole herd of swine ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and perished in the water.

They caused the herd of swine to run violently into the sea. In the natural pigs hate water, it was water spirits that drove them into the water and killed them.

These spirits are normally violent spirits that do not let go of their captives easily. The swine perished in the waters but the water spirits went back into their habitat, the sea. Water spirits normally put up great resistance in deliverance but ultimately bow to the name of Jesus and the anointing.

The same account is narrated in Mark 5 vs 1-13.

In the account of Job, he was complaining bitterly to his friends and to God after his affliction and suffering and said at one point . . . Job 7 vs 12,

“Am I a sea, or a sea serpent, That You set a guard over me?” Job understood that there is a demonic force called “sea serpent” that basically is a water spirit. In the book of Psalms and Isaiah, water spirits are referred to as the “leviathan”. This was a massive sea creature that the Bible says God created to play in the sea. Psalm 104 vs 26, “There the ships sail about; There is that Leviathan Which You have made to play there.”

It was corrupted by Satan to become an evil creature and thus the enemy of God. Isaiah 27 vs 1: ‘“n that day the LORD with His severe sword, great and strong, Will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that twisted serpent; And He will slay the reptile that is in the sea. Psalm 74 vs 13-14, “You divided the sea by Your strength; You broke the heads of the sea serpents in the waters. You broke the heads of Leviathan in pieces, And gave him as food to the people inhabiting the wilderness. Here, the Psalmist refers to the deliverance of Israel from Egypt, how God divided the Red Sea for His people to pass through on dry ground, but how he had to break the head of leviathan to execute deliverance.

Also the prophet Isaiah released God’s judgment on leviathan by the great and strong sword of the Lord. The leviathan is a demon principality operating against true Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers, cities and nations.

Job 3 vs 8, “May those curse it who curse the day, Those who are ready to arouse Leviathan.” Job is stating that may they be cursed who are ready to activate water spirits. The Bible refers to powerful cults who use leviathan for their evil deeds to pronounce curses upon men, ministers of the gospel and other national leaders and even predict soccer matches outcomes like we saw with the octopus at the 2006 World Cup as cursed. Water spirits are referred to as Rahab (not Rahab in the book of Joshua) in Psalm 89 vs 9-10. These verses linked up with Psalm 87 vs 4 and Isaiah 30 vs 7 all point to the fact that Rahab here refers to the power behind Egypt which is the water spirits, the spirits Pharaoh went to fellowship with and drew power from every morning.

When God asked Prophet Ezekiel to prophesy judgment against all Egypt, He compared Pharaoh to a great monster that lies in the midst of the rivers. Ezekiel 29 vs 2-3, “Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him, and against all Egypt. “Speak, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I am against you, O Pharaoh king of Egypt, O great monster who lies in the midst of his rivers, Who has said, “My River is my own; I have made it for myself.” By covenanting with these water spirits, Pharaoh had imbibed their character.

Some people today unaware or out of ignorance, rebellion or desiring a quick fix have activated water spirits in their lives being deceived by “so called prophets” and thus bringing a curse over their lives. Psalm 16 vs 4, “Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god; Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, Nor take up their names on my lips.” Psalm 97 vs 7, “Let all be put to shame who serve carved images, Who boast of idols. Worship Him, all you gods.”

The following are the attributes and characteristics of individuals and leaders who engage water spirits — excess pride and arrogance, abnormal desire to want to be honoured and thus you see many church leaders wanting congregants to kneel before them, lay prostrate as they pass, kiss their (feet) shoes or (hand) ring, some have motorcades that follow them claiming to protect them from imaginary danger. (Men and women of God, we are not superstars from Hollywood but servants of God). They also have a desire to control and manipulate others (Ezekiel 28 vs 2 states, “Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: Because your heart is lifted up, And you say, ‘I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, In the midst of the seas,” Ezekiel 29 vs 3, Speak, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I am against you, O Pharaoh king of Egypt, O great monster who lies in the midst of his rivers, Who has said, ‘My River is my own; I have made it for myself.’ Yet you are a man, and not a god, though you set your heart as the heart of a god.

They are accountable to no one, dishonouring constituted authority and much emphasis is placed on the man of God or prophet of God and very little honour to Jesus Christ. The man or prophet of God becomes a cult figure even if he says anything that violates scripture, for example “eat grass”, no one questions that, the untaught congregants devour the grass with much appetite even if it causes them to be sick.

We urge ministers and preachers and leaders to employ the following as a way of their protection and more so of the congregants’ protection they lead. Surround yourself with sober people that love, respect you but are bold enough to tell you if you are out of line and are going into error.

Have a spiritual father who can’t be silenced by the gifts you give them. Be open to correction from other men of God who may be in different opinion streams than yours, remain humble even if you think you are big. Don’t seek to grow your church at any cost, including violation of scripture and ministerial ethics. Do not be in competition with other men of God, callings, graces and assignments are different, on the contrary we should be complimenting each other.

Don’t miss Part 3 of this message as we deal with curses that come upon individuals, families, churches and preachers who engage in water spirits.
