Women caught on CCTV stealing

Cynthia Dube, Court Reporter
TWO women have admitted in court that they have been stealing a washing detergent from a supermarket for a year and hiding it between their thighs until they were caught on CCTV.

Two other accomplices are on the run.

In a CCTV footage shown in court, the four women can be seen stealing the detergent (sta-soft) from shop shelves at a TM supermarket in the city.

The footage shows them hiding the product between their thighs and walking out of the supermarket.

Last month, Nyaradzo Mawarire (32) from Lobengula suburb and Violet Siziba from Emganwini suburb stole the sta-soft on three consecutive days.

The two appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Mr Manasa Musiiwa facing theft charges.

They both pleaded guilty.

“I admit that we stole the sta-soft from the shop,” said Mawarire.

Siziba said they had been stealing the detergent for a year.

Prosecuting, Mr Charles Danda said on November 15 at around 10AM, the pair and two others who are on the run, stole an unknown number of 500ml sta-soft from the shop.

“They hid the product between their thighs and left the shop,” he said.

Mr Danda said the women returned to the supermarket and stole again.

“On November 17 the accused persons together with their friends who are still at large were back at the retail outlet where they again stole an unknown number of 500ml sta-soft,” he said.

The prosecutor said the value of the stolen detergent was $622.
