THREE Redcliff town women were allegedly robbed of cash, cellphones and clothing items worth about US$400 by three occupants of a vehicle they had boarded in Kwekwe.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which occurred on 2 February around 1AM at Amatava Turn-off along Harare-Bulawayo road.
“The three women boarded a white Fun Cargo with registration numbers unknown at Telecel, Kwekwe CBD, intending to go to Redcliff. There were three male occupants in the vehicle including the driver,” said Insp Mahoko.
He said upon reaching Redcliff turn-off, the driver did not turn into Redcliff Road but rather proceeded towards Gweru.
“He slowed down and produced a Columbia knife and the other two male occupants demanded cash and cellphones from the three women,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said fearing for their lives, the victims surrendered cash, cellphones, and a satchel with clothing items all valued at US$441, and jumped out of the moving vehicle.
They sustained moderate injuries and were taken to Kwekwe General Hospital where they were treated and discharged in stable conditions,” he said.
