THE Ministry of Local Government and Public Works is today holding a strategic planning workshop at a Bulawayo hotel, to take stock of performance in 2024 and plan for 2025.
Permanent secretary in the Ministry, Dr John Basera is expected to take to the podium first and give guidelines on the workshop objectives before the Bulawayo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Judith Ncube officially welcomes delegates to the city.
The keynote address by the Minister of Local Government and Public Works Daniel Garwe will follow Minister Ncube’s remarks before the start of closed-door deliberations.
As part of the review, the Ministry is expected to take stock of the compliance by local authorities to President Mnangagwa’s Call to Action, No Compromise to Service Delivery blueprint, launched in November last year. As part of the blueprint, President Mnangagwa ordered all the 92 local authorities to come up with their masterplans by June 30 this year and the workshop is expected to have a clear position on the implementation of what is contained in these masterplans.
The planning workshops are now an annual feature for Ministries, Departments and Agencies under the Second Republic and are basically meant to accelerate economic as guided by the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) which will soon transition to NDS11.
