Zim squad chosen for Youth Olympic Games

THE Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) has named a 22-member squad to represent the country at the third Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, next month
Team Zimbabwe comprises eight officials and 14 athletes representing five sporting disciplines, athletics, Equestrian, hockey, judo and rowing.
“The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee is proud to announce the team for the 3rd Youth Olympic Games to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from the 6th to the 18th of October. We wish them all the best. Go Team Zimbabwe Go!!!!!!#YOG2018TeamZim,” wrote ZOC on its official Facebook page yesterday.
Privilege Chikara, who came fifth in the 1 500m event at the African Youth Games in Algeria this year, was the only runner who made it and will be coached by veteran mentor Brian Nhubu.
European Cadet Cup judo bronze medalist Christi Rose Prestorius also made and so did African Youth Games rowing silver medalist Lorryn Bass and David Maonga.
The girls’ hockey team, who came third in Algeria following a 2-1 win over Ghana, will be hoping to go all the way to the winners’ podium.
