Zimbabwe gets solar, agro industrial parks offer
Zimbabwe could have industrial parks for solar energy and agro-processing if proposals by two Turkish companies are pursued, a senior government official has said.
Briefing the media post-Cabinet meeting, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere said Cabinet had taken note of a report on the Antalya Diplomacy Forum held in Turkey at the beginning of this month, presented by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira in which ,he said two Turkish companies proposed partnering Zimbabwe through supplying solar packages for homes and offices and establishment of an industrial park for solar energy.
Dr Muswere said an agro- processing company from Turkeyie had also proposed to construct a farm-to-fork model project with zero-waste strategy. The project will have a capacity to process 100 cattle and 300 sheep during an 8-hour shift.
During the Antalya Diplomacy Forum held from March 1 to 3, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Dr Fredrick Shava had pointed at the need for Africa to produce enough food for its needs.
“He also underscored the need to invest in modern technologies and energy in order to promote economic growth and sustainable development,” he said. “On the sidelines of the (meeting), the minister held bilateral meetings with the ministers of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Mozambique and Turkiye during which they discussed issues of mutual interest.”
The minister also met with the president of the Turkish Business Council, Nail Olpak and visited the two Turkish companies which proposed to partner the country through supplying solar packages for homes and offices, and the establishment of an industrial park for solar energy. — New Ziana
