IN a significant move towards enhancing food security in Zimbabwe, President Emmerson Mnangagwa led a delegation of Cabinet Ministers on a tour of the first family’s Pricabe Farm, where they assessed the farm’s agricultural outputs. The visit comes as the nation grapples with food shortages amid climate change induced drought and seeks to boost local production.
During the tour, officials witnessed promising results from the potato fields, with expectations of a remarkable 90 tonnes per hectare. Wheat harvesting is also progressing, with an average yield of 7.6 tonnes per hectare, and some blocks achieving up to 9.3 tonnes per hectare.
Additionally, the farm boasts a cattle herd exceeding 2,000, including a notable Ankole herd gifted to President Mnangagwa by Rwandan President Paul Kagame. This herd has expanded from an initial 18 to 38, illustrating a commitment to improving livestock production.
As Zimbabwe faces ongoing challenges related to food security, the Government’s focus on large-scale farming initiatives like that of Pricabe Farm aims to strengthen the country’s agricultural sector and reduce dependency on imports.
