THE Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) has allocated nearly ZiG62 million to the City of Bulawayo for its road rehabilitation programme.
According to the latest council minutes, the local authority will utilise most of the funds to reconstruct Matopos Road while the rest of the funds will be channelled towards routine road maintenance.
“The ZINARA allocation for 2025 was ZWG61 986 822 for both routine and periodic maintenance works. The department intended to spend 70 percent (ZWG43,390,775.40) of the allocation on periodic maintenance works (i.e Matopos Road overlay works) and the remaining 30 percent (ZWG18,596,046.60) on routine maintenance city wide (i.e pothole patching, crack sealing and slurry sealing),” reads the council minutes.
Most of the city’s roads have been significantly damaged as they have outlived their lifespan.
