RAILSTARS now top the Bulawayo Metropolitan Darts League after maintaining their unbeaten run with a 24-15 win over Park Lions.
Railstars’ Patrick Zimidzi said they were delighted to be leading the pack and were going to continue working hard to ensure they win their upcoming fixtures and win the title.

“It’s good to see that our hard work is paying off. We are on our way to the title and just need to remain focused on the job at hand. We have always known that the league was going to be tightly contested and one mistake can cost a team their place on the log,” said Zimidzi.

“I know that our work is cut out for us and we are going into the next match with more pressure as every team will be looking to upset our efforts.”

Railstars leapfrogged Archers to the top of the table after the latter lost to Maison Nic.

“Archers lost 19-20 to Maison Nic and that is good for us because we were level on points. They are a good side but all teams have their day and theirs came a bit too soon. They will also be looking to win their remaining fixtures to make life difficult for us,” Zimidzi said.

Bulawayo Darts Association (BDA) committee member Apinos Chiwara said the mid-week games are sure to produce some exciting matches as no team is looking to lose points.

“The league is now at a point where losing a game can be very costly to a team and all the teams in the league know this, so the remaining fixtures will be highly competitive. Railstars are now top of the log and have not lost a game this season so they are officially the team to beat. Every opponent they face will be looking to capitalise on their weaknesses,” said Chiwara.

His association will hold provincial trials next month to pick a team that will represent Bulawayo at the national darts tournament set for August.

“There will be provincial trials on June 13 and those picked will represent the province in the national darts tournament at Kutama High School in Mashonaland West. We want to select the best team to ensure victory for the province,” Chiwara said.

Fixtures: Archers v Old Nic Mine, Khami v Bosso, Maison Nic v Bellevue, Parkview Khanka v How Mine, Support Unit Fair bridge v Railstars, ZRP Bulawayo v Parkview Lions, Zim Sch of Mines v Queens.
