12 armed men storm Slashwood Mine in Gweru, beat up guards and steal 2, 5 tonnes gold ore

POLICE in Gweru are investigating a matter in which 12 men pounced at Slashwood mine and got away with two and half tonnes of gold ore.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred last Tuesday at about 11:30 PM.

“It is alleged that 12 men armed with Columbian knives, iron bars and logs stormed the mine premises at around 11:30 PM. They indiscriminatingly physically assaulted four men who were on guard all over their bodies,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said  a silver Nissan caravan without number plates drove into the mine premises.

“The intruders loaded sacks with gold ore into the vehicle and drove away. A report was made to the police who attended the scene. The injured guards were taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital where three were treated and discharged while one got admitted,” he said.

We are appealing to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects to approach any police station.
