36 prospective judges sail past first round of interviews Abednico Ndebele

A total of 36 prospective candidates for the posts of 10 High Court and one Administrative Court judges have successfully sailed through to the next and final round of interviews, the Judiciary Services Commission has revealed.

There was an initial list of 69 candidates for the two courts, 61 for the High Court and eight for the Administrative Court vacancy.

The first round of interviews was conducted last week in Harare.

“Following the First Stage after the nominations of persons for the position of ten (10) Judges of the High Court and the position of one (1) Judge of the Administrative Court, the persons named below are the prospective candidates,” said the JSC.

Among those who made it was veteran Filabusi resident magistrate, Mr Abednico Ncube, former magistrate Mr Sikhumbuzo Nyathi as well as lawyer Mr Sijabuliso Siziba.

The JSC said members of the public are invited to make comments, if they have any, regarding the suitability of the prospective candidates shortlisted.

Comments can be submitted to the Judicial Service Commission at the address given below.

“The successful candidates will soon be invited to participate in public interviews as the second and final stage of the selection process in terms of section 180(4)(c) of the Constitution. The recruitment process is meant to replace judges who died, resigned or were removed from office in terms of the constitution.

The vacancy at the Administrative Court arose following the retirement of Justice Herbert Mandeya.
