Bosso 90, Arenel taste victory in Wafa Wafa tournament

BOSSO 90 and Arenel progressed to the semi-finals of the Zifa Southern Region Wafa Wafa knockout competition following victories over Ajax Hotspurs and Emakhandeni  Pirates respectively at White City Stadium yesterday.

The Highlanders developmental side needed penalties to beat Ajax after the two sides had played to a two-all draw in regulation time. Bosso 90 converted all their spot kicks to win the encounter 4-2.

They are set to clash with Hwange, who beat ZPC Hwange 3-1 after penalties at the Colliery Stadium on Saturday after playing to a goalless draw after 90 minutes.

The other quarter-final played at White City Stadium yesterday saw Arenel beating Emakhandeni Pirates 1-0 for a place in the semi-finals where they will face army side Indlovu Iyanyathela. The army side thumped Casmyn 3-1 at Turk Mine on Saturday.

Winners of the pre-season competition will pocket US$3000, with losing finalists walking away with US$2 000.

Teams that will be knocked out in the semi-finals will each pocket US$1 500, while quarter-finalists will be rewarded with US$500. There is no prize money for teams knocked out in the first round.

The tournament will take a break for the Christmas holiday, with the final set to be played a week before the league championship race kicks off on January 15.
