Chipangano ready to stamp authority

when Dynamos and Hwange clash in a third place play-off match of the Independence Cup.

The two clubs will be meeting for the second time this year in Bulawayo and the Harare giants will be hoping for a change of fortunes as they were beaten by Chipangano 2-1 in the semi-finals of the Bob 88 Super Cup played at Barbourfields Stadium in February.

While DeMbare will be out for revenge, Hwange on the other end will be hoping to continue with their dominance over the league champions.

The match is part of the events lined up for 32nd Bulawayo Independence celebrations.

There are, however, fears that White City Stadium might be too small a venue given the expected bumper crowd likely to attend the celebrations hence calls by others that the match   be moved to Barbourfields Stadium.

The coalminers’ gaffer Nation Dube yesterday said they were ready for Dynamos and revealed that their players would share the prize money.

“Our preparations for the Dynamos match are on course and we are treating the game as a serious practice match. What makes it even more important to the players is that they know that they are going to share the prize money and with that kind of motivation they would want to win the game at all costs.

“The soccer lovers and those that will come for the Independence celebrations are guaranteed a thrilling game as we will field our best 11,” Dube said.

He said they would use the match to prepare for their weekend Premiership clash with Hardbody in Gweru.

The coalminers will be without defender David Boriwondo and midfielders Ocean Mpofu and Kudakwashe Chipere who are nursing injuries.

Veteran goalkeeper Timothy Sibanda who was on the bench when Hwange beat Dynamos in the Bob 88 Super Cup is fighting for a starting place with ever-improving Petros Mhari.

Rock-solid defender Gerald Sibanda, Tonisani Sibelo, Eric Chipeta and Munyaradzi Mungadze are expected to form a formidable defence with Oscar Lungu, Tawanda Mareya, Farai Vimisai, Winton Mhango and Evans Rusike competing for starting places in the midfield.

Veteran Gilbert Zulu, Tongai Mamina and Francisco Zvikumbawire who scored a brace the last time Hwange played against Dynamos, is expected to lead Chipangano’s strike force.

Just like Hwange, DeMbare will field a strong team today.

“We are bringing our strongest team because we will like to use the competition to prepare for our Caf Champions League encounter set for Tunisia this month end. We also have to fine- tune our team for our league matches and our supporters are guaranteed good football,” said Dynamos chairman Kenny Mubaiwa.

Some of the players expected to start for DeMbare include their top marksman Takesure Chinyama, Ocean Mushure, Roderick Mutuma, Washington Arubi, Denver Mukamba and Washington Arubi.
Meanwhile, Bob 88 Super Cup winners FC Platinum will be out  for their second silverware when they take on Motor Action in the final of the Independence Cup at the National Sports Stadium thisafternoon.
On their way to the final FC Platinum beat Hwange 3-1 with Motor Action winning 2-1 against Dynamos.
