Companies shun Hwange Agric Show

The three-day show was poorly attended by both exhibitors and members of the public.

Even Government departments and mines in the province, save for Hwange Colliery Company and Makomo Resources, shunned the show.

In separate interviews, exhibitors said if the attendance numbers continued to fall, the show would be left with no exhibitors except for Hwange Colliery Company.

“When we come here, it is all about marketing our products, it is about accessing new markets but when there are no people to see our products then we think twice about coming here. For starters, the showground is far from the people and secondly the show organisers seem to have run out of new ideas to attract exhibitors and the people,” said Mr John Manjengwa from Earth Moving Machinery, a company that was exhibiting for the first time.

The show chairman, Mr Herbert Sansole, confirmed that the number of exhibitors had fallen drastically over the years.

Dr Obert Mpofu said he was going to call an all stakeholders meeting to discuss the attendance matter.
