FORMER Zimbabwe Miners Federation Trynos Nkomo, 47, has allegedly swindled a foreign investor of $135,000 in a gold deal.
Chronicle understands that sometime last year, Nkomo engaged a Botswana investor, Gregg Afamefuna, 43, whom he had agreed to enter into a joint venture with.
Afamefuna is said to have deposited some money into Nkomo’s personal bank account in October last year. The money was deposited in two batches of $45,000 and $90,000 on the pretext that Nkomo would buy gold in Zimbabwe and conduct all legal formalities to have it exported to Dubai.

However, Nkomo allegedly failed to honour his promise and on realising that the investment was not bearing any fruits a year after the cash was deposited, Afamefuna decided to go the legal way.
He reported Nkomo to the police which led to his arrest last month.

Sources close to the case said Nkomo had indicated that he was willing to pay back Afamefuna his money.
“Last month he had managed to pay back a total of $4,000 and we understand he indicated that he would raise the remainder of what he owes through selling some of his property,” said a source.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed receiving such a report.
Nkomo is not a new comer to such controversy.

Efforts to get comment from Nkomo were fruitless as his mobile phone was not reachable.
