FC Platinum continued their unbeaten run, stretching it 12 games as they registered a crucial away victory against a good Triangle side in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer league match at Gibbo yesterday.

Brian Muzondiwa continued with his fine scoring form as he grabbed the priceless winner for the platinum miners.

“We won but to be honest with you it was a difficult game, in the second half they were coming at us, it was wave after wave and it was a massive game of football,” said FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza.

Triangle failed to win at home for the second time in a row losing 0-1 to the platinum miners after another 0-2 humbling by champions Dynamos two weeks ago.

Kelvin Kaindu was a bitter man after the final whistle in a game he thought they played better than their visitors.

“It’s a bitter loss, we’ve lost some games but we’ve never felt bitter as we’re feeling today. We were the better side, we created a lot of chances, we hit the post three times and balls were coming out of the line but unfortunately we couldn’t get at least an equalising goal,” Kaindu said.

FC Platinum captain Petros Mhari was tested in the 16th minute but was equal to the task parrying Praise Tonha’s thunderbolt from outside the box.

Triangle’s defence was caught napping trying an offside trap and had to thank goalkeeper Ashley Reyners who came off his line to help save them but was cautioned in the process for handling outside the box in the 22nd minute.

Muzondiwa continued with his goal scoring form finding the back of the net a minute later as the in-form midfielder received a clean pass from Tatenda Dzumbunu to coolly drive home an opener.

The home side could have equalised in the 36th minute but the visitors goalkeper Mhari, did well to thwart Pascal Manhanga from close range after a brilliant cross from Hillary Bakacheza.

Tonha nearly got his name on the score-sheet in the 41st minute when his effort from the free-kick crashed against the crossbar with both the wall and keeper well beaten.

Triangle came back in the second half a much stronger side but chances created were not converted as Cabby Kamhapa took control of the midfield winning much of the battles with only Dzumbunu looking lively.

Kamhapa’s rasping effort went inches wide with the home supporters on their toes after receiving a clean pass from Meson who was roving the left flank with only two minutes in the second stanza.

Triangle upped the pressure but it could not yield goals with the hosts unlucky on the day as they saw two more efforts come back into play off the woodwork.

Manhanga’s shot came off the underside of the bar in the 67th minute before freekick specialist Tonha’s effort crashed against the post from 30 yards after Muyendi had been fouled.

The home team however felt hard done by as Bulawayo referee Alan Bhasvi ignored the home team’s two appeals for penalties after Courage Denias was hacked down before Muyendi was pulled down in stoppage time.
