GWANDA Municipality has received two ambulances which were donated by the Zanu-PF aspiring candidate for Gwanda-Tshitaudze Constituency, Cde Fisani Moyo, in a move that is set to improve health care services in the mining town.

The ambulances were commissioned yesterday by Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Abedinico Ncube. They will mainly service residents in Gwanda Town.

The Gwanda Municipality has been operating Phakama Clinic without an ambulance for the past two years.

As a result, residents have been relying on private vehicles to ferry their ill relatives to the health centre.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony which was held at the Gwanda Municipality offices Cde Ncube said the ambulances will go a long way in improving access to health care services in the mining town. He said the gesture by Cde Moyo was in line with Government’s mantra to ensure that no place and no one is left behind.

“At the top of the Zanu-PF led Government is President Mnangagwa who is development oriented. Beneath him are his ambassadors who are representing him in various communities to spearhead development and in Gwanda- Tshitaudze Constituency there is Cde Fisani Moyo who donated the ambulances. These are the kind of leaders that we want in our country, who bring development to communities and also understand that “ilizwe lakhiwa ngabaninilo. We shouldn’t make the mistake of voting for a candidate from the opposition when seeing such great works by Zanu-PF representatives,” he said.

“In Zanu-PF leadership we understand that in order for development to take place we have to take the initiative and also work hard. As locals we have to cover development gaps that exist and not wait for anyone to bring solutions for us. Improved access to health care services is crucial in the development of our society.”

Cde Ncube said the ambulances will go a long way in improving health care service in Gwanda. He urged management to ensure that the ambulances served their purpose of helping the community.

Also speaking during the same ceremony, Gwanda Town Clerk, Ms Priscillah Nkala said the absence of an ambulance has always compromised services offered at Phakama Clinic. She said it is always a relief to see stakeholders coming up with interventions to improve service delivery.

President Mnangagwa

“The Municipality of Gwanda has been operating without an ambulance for almost two years which has really compromised service delivery. We thank Cde Fisani Moyo for this help. We also urge other stakeholders to partner council in improving the status of our town,” she said.

In an interview, Cde Moyo, who could not attend the commissioning ceremony, said being a leader meant addressing challenges that were being faced by communities. He said there are many developmental gaps that exist in the Gwanda-Tshitaudze Constituency which is currently under the opposition party, which need to be addressed. Cde Moyo said when he assumes office he will work diligently to ensure that the constituency is not left behind in development.
