MATABELELAND South province will host this year’s 21st February Movement celebrations and committees to spearhead preparations are going to be set up on Wednesday.

The 31st edition of the celebrations to mark President Mugabe’s birthday will be hosted in the Matopos National Park.
Matabeleland South provincial secretary for Information and Publicity Cde William Dewa yesterday said they were honoured to host the event.

He said preparations were underway.

“We are going to start meetings on Wednesday next week. We will appoint committees and sub committees to spearhead preparations for the event. We are very confident that Mat South will host the memorable event without any problems. We will be updating you about the progress,” said Cde Dewa.

Zanu-PF Gwanda Youth League secretary for the commissariat, Cde Emmanuel Ncube said they felt honoured to host such a big event which gives them an opportunity to interact with their icon, President Mugabe.

“It’s a big chance for the youths from all walks of life and the political divide to tap into President Mugabe’s wisdom and revolutionary traits which saw him spearhead the liberation struggle and free the country from the jaws of the Ian Smith apartheid regime.

“We are very much geared to host the celebrations. It’s our day as youths, we are going to make it a success,” said Cde Ncube.

Started in 1986, the 21st February Movement seeks to inspire young people to emulate the exemplary character of its patron, President Mugabe, who turns 93 this year. — @richardmuponde
