PREMIERSHIP bound Hwange will be out to cap a fine season with a double by winning the Landa John Nkomo Memorial Cup tournament which kicks off at the weekend.

The competition, whose participants are the teams that finished the season in the top four will see second placed Tsholotsho and Talen Vision who ended the season on third position lock horns on Saturday at Luveve Stadium.

League champions Hwange will be involved in a coalmining town derby against ZPC Hwange, winners of the 2016 John Landa Nkomo Memorial Cup at the Colliery Stadium on Sunday.

Zifa Southern Region administrator Augustine Ndlovu said they are ready for the tournament which is being sponsored by Liquor Hub to the tune of $5 000.

Winners of the cup will get $1 300, while the runners up will walk away $600 richer. The third and fourth-placed teams will each get $300.

“Everything is set for the tournament and the first semi-final will be played at Luveve Stadium on Saturday and that game between Tsholotsho and Talen Vision is free of charge. For the match that will be played at the Colliery Stadium on Sunday, fans will pay a $1 to watch the game. We are encouraging football lovers to come in their numbers and watch some exciting football from the top four sides,” said Ndlovu.

Last season, league champions Bulawayo Chiefs won the title after beating Makomo 3-1.

Ndlovu said the venue for the final to be played on November 24 will be announced after the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Zifa also revealed that it will be hosting a Soccer Stars event on December 2 to honour the 11 best players in the league.

The awards are sponsored by Liquor Hub.

The soccer star of the year will walk away with $300, with the second and third best players getting $200 and $150 respectively. The golden boot winner and coach of the year gets $200, while the rest of the soccer stars will get $50 each.
