number one ground in Harare in an effort to improve the style.
Mufakose kyokushin karate association in conjunction with Mufakose Social Service are hosting the one-day training camp which is targeting all karatekas who practice kyokushin style in Zimbabwe.
The branch chief for kyokushin-kan, Tendai Marange together with Tawanda Mufundisi and Mugove Muhambi will conduct the training session.
Event co-ordinator, Leadme Muhlohla said they will be focusing on the basics of the style.
“This is the first time we are hosting such a training camp. The difference between this camp and other training sessions is that the participants will have a chance to ask questions.
“It will involve everyone including instructors, referees and judges. Basically what we are doing is that Mufundisi was in South Africa for the past four years learning advanced martial arts and now that he is back he will be imparting the knowledge to others.
“We will be looking at the basic techniques, that is punching, kicking, fighting techniques and blocking. We are also going to introduce four new katas that were introduced recently,” said Muhlohla.
Muhlohla said the training camp presents them with the opportunity to exchange ideas with other kyokushin members from outside Harare, as they do not usually meet for such camps.
“This is good for our karatekas because we do not usually meet with all members, it is good for our karatekas because we want to create uniformity in the way we do things.
“We are going to have karatekas from Masvingo, Chegutu and Kadoma. Bulawayo are still to confirm. We hope that those that would participate in the camp will go back and impart the knowledge in their branches,” said Muhlohla.
“We hope to see a significant change in the karatekas after this camp. We intend to send instructors every month to follow up on the branches to see if there is any development,” said Muhlohla.
Karatekas from outside Harare are expected to arrive today for the training camp.
