LATEST: Boohle delivers sweet and short performance

Short and sweet just like the pint-sized artiste she is, Amapiano singer, Boohle, performed for about 30 minutes at BAC Leisure on Friday.

It was one of those shows that everyone had been waiting for and the South African Amapiano songbird did not disappoint as she took to the stage and continued the festive mood in Bulawayo.

She was the second female artiste from the genre to grace the City of Kings, Zimbabwe’s cultural and party hub after DBN Gogo who performed at Mguza Yacht Club two weeks ago.

On Friday, hundreds of music lovers converged at BAC Leisure and they were more than ready to party with the Siyathandana hit-maker. The event coincided with the Nust graduation where a number of newly capped students were up for a party at BAC.

The show was a dress-up event and, especially ladies, took their time to doll up and look beautiful. USA-based football player Teenage Hadebe was also among the party people on the night.

Screams and whistles punctuated the venue as party lovers welcomed Boohle on stage. Together, they sang along to songs such as Singili, Mama and Siyathandana.

But when things seemed to be heating up and people enjoying themselves, Boohle said “thank you Bulawayo” and was whisked off the stage. Just like that, after 30 minutes, the show was over leaving people with a bitter aftertaste.

They had dressed up just for a 30-minute show. Was it that Boohle had run through her catalogue of songs or perhaps that is what was agreed on with the show promoter.

In any case, Amapiano has taken over the Southern African region as revellers have been captivated by the genre. Artistes like Boohle, DBN Gogo and Major League DJz are coining it, especially on Africa as Amapiano has had a three-year streak as the dance music of choice for revellers.

Party people in Zimbabwe, Bulawayo in particular, have been waiting and longing for such shows after the lockdown closed everything and they were locked up at home for close to two years. Even the artistes have been bringing their A-game during performances as they likely want to milk the moment as the world is living in uncertain times.
