LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Africa must unite against oppression Nelson Chamisa

EDITOR — My article is in response to “US threatens ‘illegitimate’ International Criminal Court with sanctions” published in yesterday’s Chronicle.

Africa must learn from this just as Zimbabwe has a great deal to learn from this story.

Instead of defending our own, speaking with one voice against interference in our domestic affairs, we are the ones who run to the same America begging for more sanctions on our country.

As I write some in the opposition MDC-T Alliance led by Mr Nelson Chamisa went to the United States to ask the Donald Trump administration to renew sanctions against Zimbabwe.

We denigrate each other, lie even, in order to get the United States dollar at the expense of our children’s future.

The same America that is crying foul today, is the America that took Charles Taylor to the International Court of Justice (ICC).

Africa kept quiet when Zimbabwe was persecuted for repossessing land from whites during the land reform programme. Africa is quiet as South Africa is being threatened by the same America for daring to embark on land seizure without compensation.

Zimbabwe was not supposed to be a success story. That would have set a wrong precedent for the rest of Africa.

As Namibia is talking about the land issue, it is time for Africa to speak with one voice, stand with each other and resist bullying of whatever form or colour. Cry the beloved continent. Africa Unite!
