LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Hwange water pipe burst disrupts supplies

Editor: The Zimbabwe National Water (Zinwa) wishes to advise residents and other stakeholders in Hwange Town that the current water supply disruptions they are experiencing are a result of a major pipe burst that occurred at the Zinwa pumping mains on Wednesday morning (August 29, 2018).

The burst has thus affected all the areas supplied by Zinwa which include Empumalanga, Baobab, DRC, the industrial area, Zimbabwe National Army, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services and other areas under the jurisdiction of Hwange Rural District Council such as Lukosi.

Zinwa staff, with the assistance of other stakeholders, is already on the ground working tirelessly to repair the burst.

Due to the extent of the burst and the nature of the place where the burst occurred repairs require bigger and more complex equipment, some of which is already working on site.

The burst occurred along a water logged stretch measuring around 300 metres, making access to the pipeline difficult.

While restoration of normal water supplies may take up to two days, Zinwa wishes to assure the residents and stakeholders in Hwange Town that it is doing all it can to ensure that service gets restored within the shortest possible time.

The authority will continue to keep residents and stakeholders updated on the progress through the press and other communication platforms.

Zinwa also wishes to thank the residents and various stakeholders in Hwange for all the support they continue to render to the authority during times of breakdowns and other service disruptions.

Zinwa regrets any inconveniences that may have resulted from this development.
