AS IT HAPPENED: 60th ZITF edition official opening by President Museveni

15:23 – HE Museveni appeals to the rest of the continent to promote value jobs and in the same breath invites President Mnangagwa to visit Uganda as he ends his speech

15:20 – The President shares a common view with President Mnangagwa on the need by the two countries to promote value addition on raw materials and says this value addition exercise will consolidate employment creation in the economy. Exporting unprocessed raw materials leads to exportation of jobs and revenue for the country.

15:16 – “Zimbabwe has the potential to emerge from the current economic challenges it is reeling under” – Cde Museveni

15:13 – “Uganda went through difficult times and is posted to become one of the richest countries in the world. Uganda is prepared to walk with Zimbabwe on the journey to economic boom”

15:10 – “The continent is much stronger than before in the 1960s and Africa has worked together to liberate the nation’s. In 1989 when l was here Uganda was weaker. Uganda died and resurrected again and we are much stronger than in 1989”

14:55 – The Ugandan President makes a Clarion call for the removal of the Western imposed embargo on Zimbabwe and stands against those who say Africans cannot work together in unison

14:51 – “When you impose sanctions you aren’t sure of what you are doing”

14:50 – President Museveni calls for the removal of sanctions

14:48 – “Smith said Rhodesia will be here for a thousand years but this has not happened as Zimbabwe attained it’s Independence. The struggle for Zimbabwean Independence never relaxed until the country attained it’s sovereignty through a protracted struggle” – Museveni

14:46 – President Museveni says he is pleased for his invitation by President Mnangagwa to open the 60th edition of the ZITF. He says he has good political ties with the revolutionary party Zanu PF dating back the days of the liberation struggle.

14:45 – HE Museveni begins his address

14:44 – He says participants will take opportunity to secure investment opportunity. The theme dovetails with Government thrust to anchor investment.
“Zimbabwe is open for business and the Government has worked out the ease of doing business reforms to propel the country to an upper middle income economy. There is no better time to consider investing in Zimbabwe than now.”

14:43 – Minister of Industry Mangaliso Ndlovu introduces the Guest of Honour, President Museveni. He says we are honoured by the presence of President Mangagwa and Amai Mnangagwa

14:40 – Presidents Mnangagwa and Museveni have arrived at the ZITF main arena for the official opening of the trade fair with mass displays from the uniformed forces underway

11:12 – President Mnangagwa and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni touring stands at the Zitf.

11:10 – First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa now touring the ZITF stands and is accompanied by Ugandan ambassador to Zimbabwe, Minister Sithembiso Nyoni and the Minister of State for Bulawayo Judith Ncube. Mrs Museveni commended the First Lady for her humanitarian works through her charity organization-Angel of Hope

President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Ugandan counterpart President Yoweri Museveni have arrived in Bulawayo for the official opening of the 60th Edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair later this afternoon.
