Mash West crowned darts champions

HOSTS Mashonaland West province emerged overall winners of the fifth edition of the National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) Darts Competition held at Jameson High School in Kadoma at the weekend.

The hosts garnered 88 points from all their age group teams.

Bulawayo were second with 61 points, although their Under-15 boys performed dismally, collecting a paltry four points. In third place were Manicaland with 60 points and Matabeleland South fourth with 59 points.

Individual prizes went to Matabeleland South, particularly in the boys’ Under-18 category where Brandon Ncube and Nhlakanipho Ndebele came first and second respectively. Ncube amassed 23 points and Ndebele 20 points. Macdonald Ginya from Mashonaland West was third, just a point behind Ndebele.

Ncube also scooped silver for the highest close of 111, coming second to Mashonaland West’s Tariro Musa, who closed on 116. Ncube is part of the Zimbabwe squad set to compete at the forthcoming Africa Union Region 5 Games Darts Competition in Zambia.

The most 180s prize went to Bulawayo’s Shawn Sibanda, who managed a single 180, while Alvina Nzira had a single 160.

In the Under-15 boys, Prosper Demberere from Midlands was first with 20 points followed by Wayne Ncube of Matabeleland South with 19 points, while Nkosiyothando Wenha (17 points) came third.

Mashonaland Central, Harare and Matabeleland North were not represented, as they are yet to embrace darts as a schools’ sport.
