NEWLY-crowned Miss World Zimbabwe Annie-Grace Mutambu who was attacked by robbers in her neighbourhood of Cranborne, Harare on Friday night, is fit to resume her duties today.

A few hours after her coronation, Mutambu was mugged, losing a laptop and a cellular phone to her assailants.

According to our sister paper, The Sunday Mail the three thugs, who were driving a red Volkswagen Golf, pounced on Mutambu, 19, and her sister as they walked home from a cousin’s house in Cranborne suburb at around 8pm. She is recovering at home, though bruised.

Miss Zimbabwe Trust spokesperson Tendai Chirau said:

“The police are doing their investigations and we’re waiting on them to finish. A case was opened when it happened. It’s just unfortunate that she came face to face with such a terrible thing.”

He said today Mutambu starts work on her beauty with a purpose project that deals with albinism.

“Annie will be resuming her duties on Monday(today) as she would’ve recovered. Her beauty with a purpose project is focused on albinos suffering from cancer,” said Chirau.

The beauty’s mother Ellen Mutambu told The Sunday Mail: “She left home to collect her laptop from a cousin, who lives close to our house. Her younger sister wanted to use the laptop for her homework.

“On their way back, they saw a vehicle parked along Munroe Road. Three men disembarked, asked for directions and assaulted them. They wanted to kidnap her because they tried to drag her to their car, but the younger girl jumped onto her back and held her tightly. The two fell to the ground and the robbers continued assaulting them. A good samaritan heard their screams and the trio rushed back to their car, fleeing with the laptop and cellphone.”
