LOVEMORE Munyamana reaffirmed his status as one of the finest bodybuilders in the country when he claimed the inaugural Mr Body Works Classics held at Elite 400 on Saturday night.

The 32-year-old Munyamana, winner of five consecutive Mr Bulawayo titles, beat six other contestants mostly drawn from the City of Kings to the title.

Givemore Marufu took third place and Eddie Marondera, the only competitor from outside Bulawayo, was first runner-up. An emotional Munyamana went down on his knees and praised God when he was announced the winner.

“I am delighted; the competition was good for me. There were people I was afraid to lose to like Marondera and Mike Alimu, who were my biggest threat. My body is proportional than everyone else’s as I had cut to the bone. I was prepared for the competition. I would like to thank Thompson Mpala and Jerry Sullivan, who assisted me to prepare for Mr Zimbabwe and Body Works Classics, and not forgetting Nathan Greenland (the owner of Body Works gym) for his continued support,’’ said Munyamana.

He is now taking a two-week break from the gym, with his next target being next year’s Arnold Classics in South Africa.  Munyamana said he needs good financial support to cover supplements and a good diet for him to adequately prepare for the Arnold Classics. If he does not get any sponsorship, Munyamana said he would not bother taking part in the competition where he took part for the first time this year.

Brian Samundombe won the men’s fitness physique; the Under-23 male went to Nigel Simango of Harare, while Selina Manuel picked up the female bikini top accolade in which her only competition came from Mitchell Matsito and Thandi Khumalo.

Body Works gym owner Greenland and his wife Shantel presented the awards to the competitors.

Mr Zimbabwe Paul Goredema and Ms Zimbabwe bikini beach Shantel Greenland made an appearance at the Body Works Classics as guest posers.
Prosper Saungweme, the current Zimbabwe Strongest Man won Mr Strongman at the Body Works Classics in an earlier competition held at Gifford High School.

Saungweme was the best in all categories, tyre flip, dead lift, car push and bench press. The 26-year-old Saungweme bench pressed 200kgs, lifted 240kgs dead weight, was the fastest in the tyre flip, pushed a Mazda B2500 truck and won the Farmers Walk where the contestants ran with 140kgs of weights over 60M.

Participants in the Bodyworks Classics walked away with cash prizes, medals, vouchers, supplements and certificates. – @Mdawini_29
