Muza not pressing panic button Brian Muza

AFTER going for a lengthy goal drought that saw him last score for his club Chicken Inn in Week 17 at the end of June, the country’s second leading scorer, Brian Muza was happy to find the back of the net when the Gamecocks edged Whawha 1-0 at the weekend.

The speedy striker is now on 11 goals, four behind leading marksman William Manondo of Caps United. Muza went for nine matches without finding the back of the net and in that period, Chicken Inn recorded three wins, five losses and one draw.

He ended the goal drought with a header against Whawha at Luveve Stadium last Saturday. The 1-0 win saw the Gamecocks overtake Dynamos into second place. DeMbare had an opportunity to regain second place but lost 1-0 to Ngezi Platinum Stars at the National Sports Stadium the next day.

“It was a long frustrating dry spell for me. I am happy that I managed to register my name on the score sheet. I am a team player and I will seek to make sure I do the job for the team. I am not panicking, my target was to reach double figures.

“With eight games to play, what will happen in those matches will be a bonus for me,” said the ex FC Talen Vision striker.

Manondo has also been scoring for fun at Caps United but his form has taken a nose dive following in-house problems that have recently been affecting the green half of the capital.

Manondo together with Muza are heavily tipped to bag the 2021/2022 season’s Golden Boot Award.
Lynoth Chikuhwa of Highlanders with 10 goals also stands a chance of picking up the accolade.

With six matches to go before the end of the season, it remains to be seen who is crowned the country’s leading marksman.

The two strikers are also seeking to breach the 20 goal mark that has not been surpassed since 2010 when Norman Maroto of Gunners banged in 22 goals. — @FungaiMuderere
