SOUTH African Absa Premiership side AmaZulu FC captain Carlington Nyadombo is optimistic that his team, which is languishing at the bottom of the log, will survive relegation. The club has started preparations for the resumption of the league race. They are on a break because of the on-going Africa Cup of Nations finals in which Bafana Bafana are taking part in. Competition will resume in mid February at the end of the Equatorial Guinea event. AmaZulu walloped a National First Division side, Golden Arrows 2-1, on Tuesday morning in Durban in a friendly game.

“We have been working really hard at our training sessions knowing exactly that the team is in a bad position in the Absa Premiership. I want to give assurances to our supporters and management that the team is not going down. Believe me there is a lot to play for, most importantly the team has been in existence for ages so no one will want to see AmaZulu chopped.

“We want to make sure that we get it all right during this break. The good thing is that players are adapting and responding well to our coach Steve Barker’s training tactics and methods. He is cool but when it comes to work he needs perfection, hard work and discipline,” said Nyadombo.

The Warriors defender said they will be playing more friendly matches to boost their confidence and test various combinations.

Although AmaZulu players are prepared to help the team avoid relegation through extra training sessions he urged his teammates to always stick to the game plan and absorb the opponents’ pressure.

AmaZulu are without Bongani Ndulula who is the only player who travelled with Bafana Bafana to Equatorial Guinea for the Afcon finals.

Another Zimbabwean player at the KwaZulu Natal-based side is former Highlanders goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini.
