Regional swimming competitions preps begin CANA

BULAWAYO Amateur Swimming Association held its first gala on Friday evening at Bulawayo Municipality Swimming Pool as they begin preparations for regional competitions. 

The event which was held under lights was attended by swimmers from five different teams and they are School of Swimming, Penguins Club, Stingrays Swimming Academy, The Falcons Swimming Club and Affiliated Crusaders Swimmers. There were seven events on the night.

The swimming galas are used as preparation for the African Swimming Confederation (CANA) Zone IV junior level championships which will be held virtually in October.

The first event, which was the 50 Long Course (LC) Butterfly was kick started by under 10 girls and was won by Acacia Watson from School of Swimming with a time of 43,27s. Watson was followed by Rachel Ngwenya from Penguins Club and Isabella S Barrow from Stingrays Swimming Academy. 

The girls 11 and 12 age group 50 LC 50-metre butterfly was won by Senamile A Mphoko from Stingrays Academy whose finals time was 35,61s, followed by Nikita Kurewa from The Falcons and Penguins’ Mbali Sibanda was third. 

Camille Haskins from The Falcons won the girls 13 and 14 age group 50 LC Metre butterfly with a finals time of 37,47s. In second place there was Imaan Afzal from Affiliated Crusaders and Stingrays’ Tariro Muhomba finished in third position. 

The galas will be held every Friday.
