ROBBERS broke into a house in Filabusi at night and got away with cash amounting to R24 000, $160 and two cellphones that were in a bedroom in which the owner was sleeping.

Mr Ezweni Dube woke up last Thursday morning to discover that a robbery had taken place at his house in Bekezela suburb.

The incident is alleged to have occurred at around 10 PM last Wednesday.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident and said investigations were underway.
No arrests have been made so far.

Insp Ndebele said the family lost cash and cellphones overnight and the robbers escaped unnoticed. He said the loss of the money could have been avoided had it been deposited into a bank. —

“We urge members of the public to learn to trust banks and put their money there for safe keeping reasons. Its high time people also engaged in the use of plastic money too as it is very convenient and safer than to carry cash around.

“Once robbers pounce at a place and get what they want, it motivates them to come back again knowing that they will always get something,” said Insp Ndebele.

A source who preferred anonymity said the robbers stole the money from Mr Dube’s bedroom.

“They used unknown objects to break and force open the doors to gain entry into his house. He was asleep at that time and didn’t hear them ransack all his rooms and they actually took that cash from his bedroom where he was sleeping.

“He only noticed that there had been intruders in the morning upon seeing broken doors,” said the source. — @winnie_masara
