THE search for Bulawayo’s next top comedian is on and will be held during the two-day Bulawayo Comedy Fiesta taking place at the Thistle Room from November 30.

Over the years, the city has produced great stand-up comedians who have won many accolades including Clive Chigubhu, Mandla Da Comedian and Cskanyiso Dat Guy.

To keep the genre alive, a quest to find the next big comedian is underway through “The Top Comic Search” which will provide a platform for up-and-coming stand up comedians to showcase their talent. A workshop for spoken word artistes will also be held.

Bulawayo Comedy Fiesta and founder of Umahlekisa comedy club, Ntando Van Moyo, who is behind the search, said they will be scouting for the best female comedian, top vernacular comic, best freestyler and overall best comic.

“The fiesta is meant to give a platform to new and female comics who haven’t had an opportunity to showcase their talent.

“It’s also an initiative to grow local comedy and increase competition for existing comics through collaborations.”

Added Moyo: “People should expect fireworks as everyone working on the project has gone all out to make sure it’s the most humorous event of the year.”

Entertainment at the jam-packed Comedy Fiesta will feature a Divas Night on November 30. Ms Dee, Magi from Bus Stop TV and Nyasha Diva Mtamangira are expected to perform with Emma Nxumalo being hostess of the night. More entertainment will be provided by Ckanyiso Dat guy, Mandla Da Comedian and Zwexy Mackena.
