THE Sports and Recreation Commission will, early next month, haul 18 National Sports Associations before its disciplinary committee for failing to comply with the SRC Act .

The associations are being charged under Section 30 of the SRC Act.

The associations have defied the SRC on numerous occasions to regularise their positions in terms of the Act.

“Corporate governance is the heartbeat of any organisation and as such it occupies a very strategic place in the organisational matrix. To this end, the SRC is determined to nip the transgression in the bud by ensuring that all those who are non-compliant are brought to book,” said SRC acting director general Joseph Muchechetere.

“The level of non-compliance indicates that some of the National Sport Associations do not have regard for the laws of the land. It is in this spirit that we would like to ensure that there is order in the sport and recreation sector.”

Muchechetere said sport has the capacity and means to contribute to the economy, but this may not happen if there are organisations that have very low regard for good corporate governance and compliance with the laws of the land and their own constitutions.

The non-compliant National Sport Associations are the Zimbabwe Aerobics Association, Zimbabwe Chess Federation, Zimbabwe Association of the Blind Sport (ZASOB), Zimbabwe Junior Golf Association, Zimbabwe Handball Federation, Zimbabwe Pool Association, Sailing Association of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Wrestling Federation, Air Sports Federation of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Baseball Association, Zimbabwe Kickboxing Association, Zimbabwe Snow Sport Association, Zimbabwe Softball Association, Zimbabwe International Taekwondo Association, Association of International Taekwondo of Zimbabwe and Weightlifting Federation of Zimbabwe.

Other partially compliant National Sport Associations are engaging with the SRC.
