BLANKET Mine failed to take advantage of stuttering Shabanie Mine to power to the summit of the Central Soccer League table after being held 0-0 by ZPC Munyati. Shabanie Mine were held to a goalless draw by ZRP Gwanda, while Tongogara’s game against MSU was rescheduled, as the army side is taking part in the military games.

Blanket Mine’s draw saw them leapfrogging Tongogara into second position, but remained two points adrift of leaders Shabanie Mine. The asbestos miners are on 22 points from 10 rounds of matches. Blanket Mine coach Barnet Vinkumbu said he is happy with the way his team played because they are still among the chasing pack.

“Coming into the season, no one gave us a chance, but we did our homework during the pre-season preparations where we roped in quality players. For a team which hasn’t been one of the top clubs, I’m happy with the way things have gone so far. We’re among the chasing pack and what remains is for us to bring back the consistency that we had when the season started,” Vinkumbu said.

The Gwanda-based gold miners started the season with a four-match winning streak before losing 0-2 to Tongogara in Week Five. Elsewhere, Kwekwe fans were treated to a six-goal thriller as fourth placed Ivan Hoe outclassed ZRP Beitbridge 4 – 2, while Gweru United recorded their second win of the season by edging Chrome Stars 1-0.
