CHIBUKU Super Cup champions Triangle United have confirmed that they will participate in next year’s edition of the Caf Confederation Cup.

Triangle United became the fourth team to win the Chibuku Super Cup which was reintroduced into the topflight league in 2014.

The Lowveld side beat last year’s champions Harare City 2-0 at Gibbo Stadium, joining FC Platinum, Harare City and Ngezi Platinum Stars who tasted the Chibuku Super Cup glory.

FC Platinum won the 2014 edition, with Harare City bagging the 2015 and 2017 Chibuku Super Cup titles while Ngezi were 2016 champions.

Ralph Kawondera and Phineas Bamusi scored the goals that gave Triangle their second major cup since gaining promotion into the topflight in 2013. In 2014, Triangle beat Dynamos to lift the NetOne OneWallet Cup.

An elated Triangle chairman Lovemore Matikinyidze heaped praises on his team and said they are looking forward to participating in the continental competition in 2019/20.

“We will definitely be taking part in the Caf Confederations Cup,” said Matikinyidze.

“Everyone is happy about the victory that was delivered after a great event. It was a great event and the turnout was just marvelous,” said Matikinyidze.

He said they’ve surpassed their 2018 target.

“At the beginning of the season we set a target of finishing within the top four and we are on track. We also said we wanted to at least reach a cup final and not only did we make it to the final, but we won the cup. I think we’ve done extremely well,” said Matikinyidze.

Triangle coach Taurayi Mangwiro has done remarkably well for his paymasters, coming up with a formidable squad that has been playing some entertaining football.

Mangwiro, who led Harare City to the 2015 Chibuku Super Cup glory, attributed Saturday’s win to teamwork.

“It does feel good to win the cup. In the build-up to the final, I told the boys that it’s more of an individual award to be the first coach to win it twice, for now let’s put that behind us, records are meant for the archives, rather we play as a team and win it as a team,” Mangwiro said.
