THE owner of the homestead where Nkayi South member of the National Assembly Mr Abednigo Bhebhe addressed mourners in Tohwe area recently has said it was not true that the legislator threatened to poison Zanu-PF supporters. There were reports that Mr Bhebhe, who is also MDC-T’s deputy national organising secretary, allegedly threatened the people who did not vote for him in the just-ended elections and called for the poisoning of Zanu-PF supporters.

Mr Bhebhe has denied the allegations saying the reports were motivated by the desire to tarnish his image.
In an interview, the owner of the homestead, Mr Doctor Sibanda, confirmed that Mr Bhebhe addressed mourners at his homestead at Mantshololozane Village but did not threaten anyone.

“I am the owner of the homestead where Mr Bhebhe addressed mourners during a funeral service. The issue is that at a funeral people say lots of things. However, I personally did not hear the MP saying anything bad during his address,” said Mr Sibanda.

“As a family we were mourning and we could not pay much attention to what all the people said.  It is possible that I missed some of the things that were said but I do not remember anyone threatening people.”

Mr Sibanda said there were many speakers at the funeral service adding that he could not recall what each of them said.
“I lost my wife Belina Nyathi and the funeral service was on a Monday, the Heroes Day. Many speakers including the MP addressed the gathering. Even the village head Mr Ben Sibanda was also there. People can say these allegations but I never heard them myself,” he said.

Mr Bhebhe whose homestead is also situated in Tohwe has accused the villagers who made the allegations against him of peddling falsehoods.

“That story is not true. I never said that or mentioned the name Zanu-PF. Right now the police are investigating me over the issue,” said Mr Bhebhe.

Matabeleland North provincial spokesperson Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese said she was not aware of the case.
