WHAWHA Football Club coach, Luke Petros Jukulile has no doubt in the talent his young midfielder Calum Brown English possesses but feels the player still needs to mature into a team player to unlock his full potential.

English-Brown made history this season as he became the first white player to play in the local league since the turn of the millennium.

A product of Legends Football Academy who has also played for the Young Warriors is the only white player in the league.

English-Brown once signed for Harare City as a 16-year-old in 2017, but he was one of the unused Under-20 players in the squad.

He hogged the limelight when he was selected for the 2017 Cosafa Under-17 tournament by Moses “Bambo” Chunga.

He has been a revelation for Whawha this season with his exceptional dribbling and artistry with the ball.

Whawha look bound to be playing lower league football next year and Petros, a Warriors goal scoring legend hopes some of his players including English-Brown will attract interest from other top-flight league teams.

“It will be good for the development of football if some of these boys can go and showcase their talent elsewhere while we try to fight to comeback. Whawha has given me plenty of time.

“I wouldn’t say l will jump out of the boat if we are relegated. As much as l would want the youngsters to go l will remain with the team and again try to get back into the topflight league until we fail then maybe we can part ways with the club,” said Petros.

On English-Brown he said: “The boy is good but what he needs to do is make sure he develops into a team player and play football for results. It will be good for his development if he is at a team that does not demand results from him.

“This was a great opportunity for him to start at Whawha. Even given the opportunity to go to other teams where they can develop him. Age is on his side. He is proving to be a good player, he just needs to play for the team not to more to the gallery.”

Whawha are bottom of the table with 20 points from 28 games. With six games remaining in the league, they are 10 points away from safety and it does not look like they will survive the dreaded chop.
