Women from all corners of Bulawayo converged at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre main arena on Sunday for the much-anticipated Doek and Slay event.

This unique gathering continues to play popular among women as it provides them with a safe space to freely express themselves.

The atmosphere was vibrant, with women adorned in colourful flora prints and stylish doeks, perfectly embodying the event’s theme. It was a sight to behold as women took a break from their daily routines, indulging in refreshments and hitting the dance floor with enthusiasm. Food stalls offered a variety of delicious meals and drinks to complement the festivities.

DJ Simba Tunez kept the energy high, spinning music from across the continent, eliciting screams of excitement from the crowd with each track. Band Fusion showcased their artistic prowess, entertaining the audience with songs by renowned musicians such as Shwi, Shabalala Rhythms, and Swedish House Mafia.

Feli Nandi graced the stage with her soulful music infused with Afro-Fusion elements, captivating the audience with her extraordinary talent and dynamic stage presence. Her performance exuded infectious energy, resonating with the crowd, and she even took time to connect with fans, taking selfies despite her exhaustion. Her rendition of Lovemore Majaivana’s classic track “Umoya Wami” evoked nostalgic vibes reminiscent of the late singer Chiwoniso Maraire.

As ExQ and his dancers took the stage, the anticipation among the ladies was palpable, with screams of excitement filling the air. While many attendees were impressed with the event’s security measures, some expressed a desire for more diversity in the line-up, calling for the inclusion of Bulawayo artistes like Insimbi ZeZhwane to provide a variety of entertainment.

Overall, the event was a resounding success, providing women with a rare opportunity to unwind, forget their troubles, and celebrate sisterhood in a safe and welcoming environment.

Attendees expressed their gratitude to the organisers for their efforts in creating such a memorable experience.

“We enjoyed the show with my friends, especially the performance from Band Fusion. I’m also impressed with the security and freedom we have here, and I would like to say keep on doing a great job to the organisers,” said Sukoluhle Khumalo, echoing the sentiments of many attendees.
