THE Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) has been elected member of the Airport Council International Africa (ACI Africa) board commencing 2023 to 2025.

ACI Africa is the international association of African airports and is autonomous under its own statutes and internal procedures.

One of its primary objectives is to represent and advance the collective interests of African airports, while promoting professional excellence in airport operations and management, through the provision of efficient and quality programs and services, in order to achieve safe, secure and sustainable development of the air transport industry in Africa.

It also seeks to promote cooperation between all segments of the aviation industry and their stakeholders as well as with governments, regional and international organizations in Africa.

As of 31 January 31, ACI Africa was composed of 69 regular members from 52 African countries, managing more than 260 airports, and 46 trading partners.

In a brief announcement, ACZ said its chief executive, Mr Tawanda Gusha, has been elected member of ACI Africa 2023-2025 board.

“Zimbabwe is now at a vantage position to contribute more in formulation and reviewing of African aviation policies, ease access critical Airports funding and capacity building,” said the company.

The ACZ operates a network of eight airports which are strategically located around the country, providing direct and fastest access to the country’s tourist resorts and trade areas.

The three major airports with scheduled services are Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Victoria Falls International Airport and the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport.

The ACZ also operates other five smaller airports, which are mainly served by charter operators except for Kariba which now has a scheduled service.

These are Kariba International Airport, Charles Prince International Airport, Hwange National Park Airport, Masvingo International Airport, and Buffalo Range International Airport.

Plans are underway to establish three more airports in Gweru, Beitbridge and Mutare respectively.

Recently, ACZ participated at the Routes World 2022 meeting in Las Vegas, United States of America, together with over 2 000 decision makers from the global aviation sector value chain.
