ZPC Munyati top spot dreams denied

ZPC Munyati’s hopes of shooting to the top of the Central Soccer League table through the boardroom have been quashed following a disciplinary committee’s order that they replay their outstanding game against Vumbachikwe.

The Zifa Central Region disciplinary committee ruled in favour of Vumbachikwe, who contested a walkover after arriving late for their encounter against ZPC Munyati following a breakdown they had on their way to Munyati.

The Matabeleland South team reportedly had a breakdown after Zvishavane and informed the league as well ZPC Munyati about their predicament before hiring another bus to take them to Munyati, but upon arrival they found the home team and the referees already gone.

A statement from the Central Soccer League reads: “The disciplinary committee went through the facts of the matter and noted that Vumbachikwe made efforts to fulfil the encounter. It was noted that circumstances behind their (Vumbachikwe) late arrival were beyond their control.

“The disciplinary committee ruled that the two teams must play their game at Munyati on Thursday, 27 September 2018. Vumbachikwe has also been ordered to cover match related costs, that’s the match officials’ fees and pay the police. Vumbachikwe will also cover the costs of the hearing.”

With the Central Soccer League season at its peak, the outcome of the hearing is a blessing to championship chasing Tongogara, TelOne and Whawha, as it means ZPC Munyati have been denied an opportunity to shoot to the top of the table via the boardroom.

ZPC Munyati are fourth on the table tied on 29 points with third-placed Whawha, who have a superior goal difference.

Army side Tongogara shot to the top of the table at the weekend, dislodging TelOne into second position following a 2-1 home win over FC Lasaffre. TelOne drew 0-0 with MSU to take their points’ tally to 32.

Tongogara are tied with TelOne, but have a superior goal difference.

Whawha beat police side Black Eagles 2-1 to keep their title hopes alive.

ZPC Munyati were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Sheasham and will be hoping to add woes on Vumbachikwe, who lost 1-0 to Ivan Hoe Mine, when they clash in Munyati tomorrow.

A victory for ZPC Munyati by at least a two-goal margin will take them to the top table.
